Happy lil ❤’s are baking #20 ~ Russian Tea Biscuits

What did you bake or cook with your kids this week?

Below is a linky list so you can join in the fun and start sharing what you bake with your kids! Family favourites, new recipes, cultural or traditional recipes – you name it, we’d like to read about them, and if you include the details, try them out 🙂

Since watching Dr Zhivago when I was younger I’ve been captivated by Russia
And I feel the Trans-Siberian Railway calling to me.. one day *smile*
So I was thrilled to have an excuse to try out some Russian baking for Around the World in 12 Dishes!

We made Russian Tea Cookies using the recipe in Tatiana’s Table, by Paullina Simons
{this is the recipe book for the love story of Tatiana and Alexander}

…yes… I’m a romantic at heart

Dino Boy creamed the butter and sugar before adding a good lug of vanilla essence and an egg yolk
{although I think a few drops of vanilla were all that was asked for}
He then weighed and measured the flour before adding it to the mix

Crushing the walnuts to coat the biscuit balls was fun!
Although when it came time to roll the balls in the egg white, before the nuts, he told me it was yucky
He happily joined in again to make jam spots by pressing his little thumb down

And after they were baked and cooled, he filled them with strawberry jam *smile*

Before dusting them with icing sugar

A little rustic looking but delicious none-the-less!

We can’t wait to see what you’ve been up to in the kitchen with your kids!
