Water beads + dinosaurs {and a secret}

I have a bit of a secret to share…
{please don’t get cross}
but I have to admit…. I don’t quite get the ‘sensory bin’ thing {sorry!)

And the funny thing is, as I was arranging the photos for this post, Dino Boy caught sight of them…

Oh yeah, they were fun! Can we play with them now?!

Hee hee hee, and although he obviously enjoys it…
{and I’m very happy to have him play this way}
 I have to admit I still haven’t quite jumped on the bandwagon

This is not to say I don’t see the value in sensory experiences ~ I do
I suppose the play we invite doesn’t have a particular sensory intended focus…

Although…

❤ when we bake… we touch the ingredients, smell them, taste them
❤ when we paint… we use our hands and other instruments to manipulate the paint
❤ when we craft… we touch a variety of textures and mix them together
❤ when we get outdoors… there are a gamut of sensory aspects to what we are doing

So, I suppose what I am saying is that we appreciate and enjoy the sensory aspects of what we do…
 but we don’t tend to organise or make available activities with sensory play at the front of our minds
…but see sensory as an aspect of what we do
{does this make any sense?}

But then again maybe I’m just over thinking this one…
and tying myself up in knots using a {new for me} name for this kind of play?
 And as my friend The Monko from Taming the Goblin said to me…
If they have fun ~ it is worth it!

I’d love to hear your thoughts *smile*

Warmly, Kelly
