In the mood for painting…

Some days I need to be in the mood for painting… or any art and crafts with the kids actually.

Otherwise I can easily get cross… feel frustrated… and can’t cope with the mess it creates!

But sometimes they really want to paint…when I’d really like them not too.

So, I sit with them and let them go for it. I start full of annoyance.

But then as I watch and let them go for it I calm down …I remember that we can easily clean up. And if need be, the kids can have a shower.

They enjoy this and not just on my time…when I am in the mood for painting

Yes, they may use the paint brush differently to how I initially hoped but aren’t those pretty flowers .

Yes, now Ruby appears to be the artwork *slightly amused sigh*

And then its over. Just when I’d warmed up!

Off he runs to wash up… the paint is gone …and so is the moment

Happy parenting,
Kelly

Love the honesty and description in this post Kelly! I often start like that but i calm down when i see how happy it is making them and how busy they are…you are right, it can all be washed quite easily and just isn’t worth becoming stressed about…it does take effort on our part to reach that point though!! Good for you Mama x

Love painting, love the concentration and creativity it produces and like you say it all washes off

I love the way you wrote this post – it’s so true. Moments and experiences can be so fleeting for kids, yet for us adults we have to prepare and get organised and get into it …often by the time we are ok with it, the moment is over and the kids have moved on to something else!

Oh yes, absolutely, I need to be in the mood! I surprised both of us yesterday by saying yes to painting…. and it turned out to be the easiest half hour of my day. I set up some finger paint, paper, a bucket of water and a towel and put my feet up in a chair along side my little artist while she spent her time exploring. She loved it. I loved it. AND we were outside, so the mess was minimal. Hose it down – all done 🙂

Loved this. You have such a wonderful way with words. I feel the same about painting. I value it but can’t handle the clean up. That’s why I love warm days so much. Everything seems so much better when we paint outside.

    P.s. Love the new header.
