Sleeping in

A stolen hour or half hour of sleep on the weekend is delicious.

I’ve never been much of a morning person and luckily (touch wood) my kids tend to wake up around 7.30. I can cope with that. But on the weekend I still love a sleep in.

To help grab a few more winks I often leave out some craft materials or invitation to play for the kids to discover in the morning. Sometimes this works, sometimes it doesn’t. But on the mornings it does I feel super lucky.

And some mornings I hear my son helping his sister with breakfast and even getting dressed. She can do these things herself, but still likes us to help her, so I am very appreciative that he does this.

The outfits they may chose might be rather different ~ she has a bit of a shorts over leggings thing going on right now! Or they may stay in pyjamas half the day {with ‘weapons’ tucked down their tops}…

And the house may feel more ‘well played in’ when I get up, but this is a small thing when I get those stolen winks.

How do you manage to grab some extra sleep?

Happy days
Kelly

Love seeing these photos of them engrossed in what they are doing. I am an early riser, it is the only way I get my so needed “me time”, so I tend to get my extra winks by going to bed early 🙂

I’d love to be an early bird like you! And yes, I love seeing them this engaged too, lovely to see isn’t it.

No sleeps in with a 2 year old but I do look forward to those sneaky sleep ins when he get older:) Beading will keep those fingers busy for a while. I haven’t seen these sets before. I have a beads that are much bigger for I toddlers but I do like the one in particular with the letters.

Hopefully those sleep ins happen soon for you 🙂 And I picked these beads up at Aldi – they seem to cycle through things over the year, so likely they will come back.

7:30! How divine. Jack’s up before 6 here 🙁 Over the last few years though we have really worked hard to build his independence by setting up the house so it is accessible to him. So while he gets up before 6 we are still able to sleep til about 7 because he will occupy himself happily. I am very grateful for these extra stolen minutes.

I do exactly the same! A little more sleep is worth it!

This happens in my house too!
On weekends all four of my kids get themselves up and fed – the big kids help the little one with breakfast if needed. They know the sorts of things they are allowed to do in the mornings, and sometimes I leave a little suggestion or challenge which they love.
Often it means not only a little more sleep for me, but also a chance to snuggle in bed with one of the kids which I rarely get to do now they are bigger… it is lovely!

I’m so lucky that my husband and I can take turns to sleep in, so I get to sleep in every other day. But I’m looking forward to when my kids are old enough to be able to be up by themselves, for their own independence, and so we can snuggle a little while together…

Sleep ins around here are for weekends only when my fabulous husband gets up with the girls. He’s gone very early during the week so it is nice for him to have this time with them 🙂

My children are early risers, sleep ins are far and few between here! It is a lovely way to start the day with a creative invitation ready and waiting to go.

I like the idea of setting something up for them to play with when they get up! I also like Kate’s idea of making the house kid friendly to allow an early riser to be independent. I think we need to look at doing something like this. Thank you for sharing 🙂

Lovely idea of setting things up in advance! I usually get a long lovely sleep in on saturdays thanks to hubby (as we have a toddler who isnt quite up to being indendent yet!) but I cant wait until we can just let them loose on the house while we both snooze! 🙂 now i realise why my parents were so cool with saturday morning cartoons/music videos!

Love this 🙂 My boys are always awake by 6 – but they know it’s quiet time in their room if they wake up earlier. I have been thinking of setting up a few activities for them to do until a bit later… thanks for the inspiration. x
