treasure island cake

Happy lil ❤’s are baking #12

What did you bake or cook with your little ones this week? Or, if you don’t have anything new we’d love to see something from your archives 😉

Below is a linky list to join in the fun and start sharing what you bake or cook with your children, so we can inspire each other. Family favourites, new recipes, traditional or cultural recipes – you name it, we’d like to read about them and if you include the details, try them out 🙂

We’ve been making a birthday cake for Husband of Mine. Usually he is the birthday cake maker since icing is my nemisis (seriously, we don’t get along at all).
Master D chose a treasure island cake for his dad. He spent ages trying to decide which cake was right 😉 And here it is!
(sorry I had to use my phone to take the photo)
And, just for comparision sakes, here is the cake Husband of Mine made for Master D’s last birthday… (mmm, I guess you can sort-of see the difference?!)

For the treasure island brownie cake we used:
170g butter
330g sugar
vanilla to tast (so a hefty lug from Master D)
3 eggs
85g flour
50g cocoa
pinch salt

Start by melting the butter.
While the butter melts add everything else to a mixer. Spill some flour along the way because you are holding your 9 month old at the same time 😉 Then pour the butter in too. Mix!

Pour the mix into a greased baking dish. Bake for about 45 minutes (or until it passes the knife in the middle test) at 180°C (around 350°F).

Test the cake batter, just to be sure it will be good enough for your dad *smile*

Once cooled, dig holes to hide treasure! Then decorate beautifully *cough*…. and ta, da!
