Birthday bunting

I have a bit of a thing for bunting…
I also have a thing for rainbows & birthdays
So when you pop all these lovely things together you get
beautiful rainbow birthday bunting!

Making birthday bunting has been on my list for awhile
And finally, just before Winter I started creating my own
Using some beautiful wool felt… in rainbow colours
hand sewn with rainbow thread
{is there such a thing as too much rainbow?}
Then I got stuck.
My pennants were made, and needed to be joined together.
For some reason though, I have developed a bit of sewing machine fear
Luckily my friend Andj came to the rescue with some hand sewn bias binding for me…
and my mother-in-law sewed the bunting together
A special team effort then *smile*
I’m hoping this bunting will be a special part of our family birthdays
Something that the kids see that brings a little bit of ceremony to our celebrations

Happy days,
Kelly

A lantern walk

Dino Boy and I shared his first lantern walk this Winter.
And it has left a lasting and beautiful impression on us both.

On a cold Winter evening we walked towards his preschool..
crunching on the gravel path which was illuminated on both sides by small candles…
a small taste of what was to come.

Dino Boy joined his school friends for a special story, while the parents assembled near the lanterns, readying them for our magical walk, which would follow dusk setting.

Before long, we heard the sound of small voices singing,
and the children slowly come to greet us in a procession behind their teacher.
As each child came close...
their mother or father joined them, taking them by the hand and joining in the singing…
My lantern, my lantern
Shining near and far
Shining like the moon
Shining like the sun
Shining like a silver star

Dino Boy and I joined hands and started along the magical walk…
following his teacher, singing and entranced by the candles lighting our way.

Along our pathway we discovered small magical fairy and gnome homes,
with welcoming beacon lights.
Dino Boy exclaimed with excitement when he first spotted these wondrous little homes.
We weaved along the pathway, past many fairy homes, before winding back to the preschool.

There we found a warm fire beckoning…
and Dino Boy joined his schoolmates around the fire,
singing some more before the Winter celebration came to an end.

The beauty of the lantern walk came home with us,
and Dino Boy has been creating his own fairy homes and hosting his own lantern walks…
his sister in tow *happy smile*

Happy days, Kelly
