Teddy loves our Waldorf inspired board books.
He loves to read them over and over again. Pointing to all the things, telling me when he sees a doll, a cat or a boat.
Three of his favourites board books are wordless. Books that allow children to create their own stories and really take their time enjoying beautiful illustrations. Books that I hadn’t appreciated myself until I saw my own children respond to them.
Our 5 favourite board books
Rain or Shine by Ronald Heuninck is a sweet wordless board board that illustrates the fun children can enjoy outside no matter the weather.
With beautiful soft illustrations of children feeding the ducks in the rain, jumping rope in the sunshine, picking apples in the Autumn this is a truly lovely book. And one that can be enjoyed all year round as it shows the year through the seasons.
For more seasonal board books you can’t go past the lovely collection from Gerda Muller of Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter.
These lovely seasonal books would have to be a firm family favourite here. Again these board books are wordless, allowing the children to create their own sweet seasonal tales. My children love re-discovering these lovely books in our book nook as the seasons roll around.
Teddy received A New Day by Ronald Heuninck last year and loves that it is his book.
A New Day is about the sweet simple days children enjoy at home with their mothers. From waking in the morning, making sure dolly is fed breakfast, a walk near a lake and helping in the kitchen, I think this story meets children beautifully with their understanding of the world.
Pippa and Pelle by Daniela Drescher is the whimsical story of two friends enjoying a Summer’s day. They see Mr Snail and wonder what it would be like to live in his shell. They talk to a busy beetle who is collecting leaves for his home, and talk to the frog who lives in the water.
This is a lovely written story with sweet whimsical illustrations to complement the story.
Hello Sacred Life by Kim Krans is one of Ruby’s favourite stories. A story she has committed to memory and loves to ‘read’ to her little brother.
It is a beautiful and simple story that celebrates this life we live. From the sacred sun, the sacred moon, the sacred children ~ this is a sacred life.
