With my elbow resting on the table, I lift my arm straight up, fingers stretching upwards. The fingers of my other hand start drumming the table, calling my daughter’s attention to my actions. Inviting her to join me as we sing.
Up the tall white candlestick climbed little Mousey Brown
(with fingers climbing the candle stick arm)
Right to the very top, but he couldn’t get down
So he called to his grandma, ‘Grandma, Grandma’
(hands held to the sides of our mouth we call)
But grandma was in town
(reaching our hands outwards)
So he curled himself into a ball
(pulling our hands together and crossed over our chests)
and roley-poleyed down
My daughter then asks that we sing another, sing another!
Again drumming our fingers on the table we sing…
Springtime showers, Springtime rain
(we use of hands to show raindrops falling)
Wash the earth all clean again
Wash the earth all clean again
(our hands swish side to side)
Spring is coming
Spring is coming
Birdies build their nest
Weave together, straw and feather
(hands folding over each other)
Each one doing their best
We sing after our lunch and before quiet time. While our mealtime candle still burns bright. We don’t sing everyday. But the days we do, I feel a greater togetherness and connection. Our songs are a celebration of the season. Bringing reverence and gentle awareness to the time of year.
Happy days,
Kelly

What beautiful songs and I love your candle holder. We love singing together too and at the moment my daughter is creating her own songs that we copy, which can be tricky at times because she throws in her own made up words into the lyrics 🙂
How wonderful that she enjoys playing with making up her own words – my son likes to do this too, often cheeky versions of things!
This is so beautiful! Such gentle photos! thank you for sharing your special moments!
Beautiful.
Amazing how you are celebrating Spring whilst I’m giddy about all things Autumnal around us, what an amazing world.
So true 🙂 is is an amazing world x
So beautiful! We sing every day too, but I hadn’t though to sing in the season…
Oh this is just divine. Such a lovely tradition to have with your little girl.
How gorgeous – just love the sweet songs and the photos, too. I love the idea of celebrating the seasons. Must get a nature space available finally!
Oh, I love seeing the songs you sing!! Some of them I remember from my Waldorf days. We love singing as well and it definitely brings a sense of togetherness as well as the studies of it bringing happiness. Thank you for sharing at Sharing Saturday!!
So beautiful! And here we are and it’s Springtime again!! 🙂 x
